Sturt's Desert Pea, Swainsona formosa, is a member of the pea family. It is a desert plant and native to the arid areas of Australia. It grows in red sandy or loamy soils in mulga woodland, near creek lines and on stony hills, and open plains. It usually grows in prostrate form spreading across the ground.
The State of South Australia has Sturt's Desert Pea as it's official floral emblem.
This plant is named for Charles Sturt whoc was a British officer who explored inland parts of Australia.
